The most popular hiking trails in Nepal lead to Everest region and Annapurna. The goal of this scenic trek is the remote and less frequented circle route around world's 8th highest peak Manaslu (8 163 m) located along the border of Nepal and Tibet. During this journey we also ramble the most picturesque part of Annapurna Circuit including world’s highest trekking pass Thorung La - situated at the breathtaking height of 5 416 m - and Tichilo Lake, world’s highest located lake at 4 920 m. This 28 days long scenic odyssey offers you all the rewards which a longer trek can bring; loads of culture and meetings with locals, stunning nature and a vast variety in mountain landscapes! Manaslu area was long closed to foreigners due of its proximity to the Chinese border. Since 1992 the area is open for visitors, but a special permit is still required. The trek follows a route that has been craved by Himalayan buffs. The trails are relatively empty of trekkers and the culture and traditions of the people are still intact. Going north behind Himalchuli (7 893 m), Peak 29 (7 871 m) and Manaslu (8 163 m) you explore villages where Westerners are still a rare sight and the way of life stayed unchanged for decades or maybe even centuries.
Heading up the Buri Gandaki River valley, near to the Tibetan border, we cross the 5 100 m high Larkya La Pass to the headwaters of the Dudh Kosi River. Some of the best pristine rhododendron forests in Nepal are found along this stretch of the Dudh Koshi. The Annapurna area, which we explore during the second part of our journey, is a great region to discover the diversity and beauty of Nepal. We ascent from the exotic valleys of the Marsyandi River where Hindu farmers cultivate their rice fields to the Buddhist highlands of Manang, Pisang and Khangshar where traders from Tibetan origin live in medieval dwellings. In Bragha we visit the eldest monastery of the area, probably 500 years old. We reach the Marsyangdi Gorge and follow the Annapurna Circuit until Manang. After Manang village we leave the circuit for a while and head to the great ice lake of Tilicho and Khangshar village from where we trek Yak Kharka and back to the main trail of the Annapurna Circuit. After conquering the 5 416 m Thorung La pass we enjoy breathtaking views over the Kali Gandaki Canyon. We descend to the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage place of Muktinath and further to the picturesque monastery and settlement of Kagbeni, the gateway to Mustang. We finish our adventure in Jomsom from where we fly to the charming lake town Pokhara where you can relax the last time in the shadow of the mighty Himalaya.
